It was a treasure from her grandfather from Girmit days. Her Grandfather looked after the temple, later her father and then she took over the running of the Temple after it was in ruins for 18 years.

Suria Kanta Maataji was the youngest in her family, divorced, alone and this was the 12th year she has been taking the annual pooja at the Kantas Gangaiamman Temple ahead alone on Saturday 12th May. There is no pujari like other temples, as Maataji says that the power is in bhakti.

The GangaiAmman temple has a lot of Shakti, a number of people who were jobless, childless came here and just prayed in front of the deities and have been helped. People from any religion can come, no items for worship, no prasad offering is required. Just by coming here and praying – opening your heart – everything takes place by the Power of God. The temple opens early in the morning around 5am and closes at 8pm everyday.

Maataji says that “You got to help yourself”. She herself was suffering from cancer and was healed without any medication. The past 12 years women in the village has helped her take the mandir forward. By her dedication in organising and conducting the annual pooja for the last 12 years, she is showing what the power of God is. This she says lies in by simply just praying to God.

Maataji runs a decoration business named Kantas Creative Decorations and can be contacted on Mobile: 9429892 and her FB name is Suria Kanta.
